Check the county's current hurricane guidance at miamidade.gov at the start of each season, and have a plan B: hotels along your evacuation route that take pets, or the relative in Orlando who owes you one.

What about during and after the storm?

During: pets stay inside with you, in carriers or a small safe room; a scared pet plus a blown-open door is how heartbreak happens. After: leash walks only. Yards and streets hide debris, displaced wildlife, contaminated standing water, and downed lines, and landmarks that oriented your pet's mental map may simply be gone.
